Casting Crowns have a song: "I will praise you in this storm" - it seems quite appropriate these days.  Its bridging chorus quotes from Psalm 121 "I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?  My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of the heaven and earth" (v.1-2).  In the end that is the most encouraging thing we can hold onto in these days when our normal lives and routines have been dislocated and disrupted. 

But the Psalm gets better!  The people of Israel at times in their history fell into the temptation of trusting other gods to help them, protect them, provide for them, satisfy them.  They would gather at shrines and at altars on mountain peaks, thinking that somehow that made them closer to the spiritual realms.  The only problem was that the idols, the Baals, were infamous for being sleepy and you would have to try to get their attention.  That's dramatically acted out when Elijah faces off against the prophets of Baal atop Mount Carmel - the latter spend the day working themselves into a frenzy while Elijah mocks them that perhaps Baal is asleep, on his holidays or even busy on the toilet. 

In stark contrast, we can be assured that God is wide awake and intimately concerned with the lives of His people: "He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore" (v.3a-4, 7-8).  So be sure as you say your prayers today and go about your life (whatever that now looks like) that the One who sits in heaven loves you, smiles upon you (His child in Christ) and is watching over you unceasingly
