THE LIFE AND SOUL OF CHURCH

Two words are used in the New Testament which grows our understanding of the church; Ecclesia and Koinonia.
Ecclesia - Gathering and Assembling.
Koinonia -  Fellowshipping and Sharing.

While we are unable to gather and assemble together in a place or building, we are still sharing together in fellowship. The life and soul of the Church are alive and well.

In Acts 2, there are a number of characteristics that Luke wanted to share with Theophilus to help grow his understanding of the Church - the fellowship of believers.

Can I encourage you to consider how these characteristics are still alive and well in our fellowship during a period of extended lockdown?

For example, The Apostles teaching, the Word of God, the Scriptures, the words used in the New Testament for what we call the Bible.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Acts 2:42 ESV

Here is a selection of verses to consider what God says about his Word.

and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
Ephesians 6:17 ESV
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Luke 8:11 ESV
But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Luke 11:28 ESV
And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 ESV
And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
Luke 4:21 ESV
Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,
Luke 24:45 ESV
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
2 Timothy 3:16 ESV
knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:20-21 ESV

During this extended period of lockdown, have you lost or gained in your devotion to the Word? Are you reading it more, listening to it more, applying it more, discussing it more and sharing it more?
Are you listening to more preaching, asking others more questions about what is encouraging them from the Word? Is God's word fueling your prayers, feeding your fellowship and helping you to know it is well with your soul?

Is it well, with the life and soul of the church?

Read; James chapter 1.

Listen to or watch;  It is well with my soul.
