Ecclesiastes 4:1-6:12 - The Business of Life.
- Life is tough (4:1-3), if the goal of our lives is to be trouble-free. We will never be satisfied!
- Life is tricky (4:4-6:11), if the goal of our lives is to gratify ourselves with our own successes. We will never be satisfied.
- Life is tied to God (6:12), if the goal of our lives is to glorify God, we will always be satisfied.
Now if my waking thoughts are, “I want a trouble free day (4:1-3), followed by how can I be more successful than my neighbour (4:4)” , then life becomes increasingly tough and tricky. However if with my waking breath, I ask God for help to glorify him. Then even in the troubles of the day that will surely arrive and the moments of failures that will hound me, every moment will be a moment of taking hold of that for which he has taken hold of me!
Philippians 3:12 - Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
